Hi, I really like Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise. We use it every day and I have nothing but good things to say about the product and support from Quest.
Here are a few features that I would love to see included in a future version of Spotlight on SQL Server.
- Tabs - It would be nice to have multiple tabs within the client so that I can quickly switch back and forth between Spotlight Today and the connection Home Pages.
- Rename connections - Some of the connections require FQDN and some can be reached by server name. It would be nice to rename the FQDN connections to a short name.
- Snooze for 1 day - Sometimes I don't want to deal with an alarm today but would like to get back to it. The list of quick choices for snooze only goes to 2 hours. Would be nice to have 1 day as an option without going into the custom snooze.
- Spotlight access configured in the tool - It would be nice to configure access in Spotlight client through a more secure method. Windows groups can be modified by any number of people within our infrastructure services unit who support the OS but should not be able to add themselves to the access groups for Spotlight.
- Acknowledge without comments - I am the primary user of Spotlight on my team and would like the comments screen to be optional as I usually don't add comments.
- Launch mstsc for rdp - It would be great to be able to launch a remote desktop connection as an option when viewing server information. An option that sends "mstsc /v:<highlighted server>" would be convenient.
- Android client - IOS client is nice. Would love an Android client.
- Distinguish between SQL instance and server in heat map. Stand alone SQL Servers have the same name as the underlying Windows server. If they could have the connection type in the heat map along with the connection name, it would be great.
- Sort or group servers in the list - We have 60 licenses servers and I do a lot of scrolling up and down to find the right one. If I could group them by environment or priority, it would help.
- Way to tell which node is hosting SQL Instance when "active node" is selected in connections manager. I don't know how to tell which cluster node is hosting the instance.
- Ungrouped Spotlight Today filter - The best way I know of to see what is going on at a glance is to ungroup Spotlight today. Sometimes I only want to see medium or high alerts but the "Filter by Severity" option is unavailable.
- Quick view option - A quick view option to quickly get a SQL Server Homepage for a server that we don't monitor would be really nice. Sometimes I need to glance at the current state of an unmonitored server but don't require playback.
Thanks again. Any of these additions would add even more functionality to an already great product.
